He is famous for his art experiments “drug series” of self portraits. Self Portraits of Bryan Saunders are very different as he has done experiments under the influence of different drugs which we can see in his art work.

“He says: Today we live in a narcissistic and obsessive culture, totally overflowing with drugs.  And as an artist I am the filter…”

In an interview he shared his views about his personal tribulations about his project which highlighted the following:

–> I only do drugs that people donate to the project.

–> Xanax (totem poles – 4mg) & Butane Honey Oil would probably be one of my favorites.

–> The worst is PCP and Seroquel (heavy tranquilizer / antipsychotic agent) 100 mg.

Once, I went to a doctor to hopefully get more different drugs and told him about my project and showed him my pictures on various drugs and he only wrote one prescription for 90 Seroquels thinking I was psychotic for taking such an undertaking and it was awful!

During the project he became “lethargic and suffered mild brain damage” because of his experiment. He had been mixing the wrong drugs with each other for days and gave himself mild-brain damage without even knowing it. Luckily his friend Audra spotted it and was lucky enough that it wasn’t permanent.

Note – Do not try this as it can be risky and can cause fatal injury.

The collection of 50 photos is a beautiful piece of art. The first 30 are amazingly beautiful. The later section from 31 onwards will make you think about paintings, As the influence of drugs can be easily seen in paintings and how they affected the mind of artist.
